It Was How Big?

Description

As suddenly as it began the nanobot assault ended. Fortunately the attack was so brief Dazzler still had control of her motor functions. The pain subsiding she managed to twist her body around to see the ground rushing up to smash her to a pulp.

Ali fired off a second photon bolt in an attempt at a controlled landing. But the Dazzler could tell she was too close to the ground. Her solid light thruster wouldn't slow her down in time. She shifted her arms and altered her vector from a vertical drop to a more horizontal one.

As she hurtled over the treetops Dazzler figured out Kraven didn't want her flying during the hunt. And if she didn't land NOW he'd probably zap her again. So she shut down her thruster and curled herself into a ball.

Then she created a solid light sphere around her body. A SOLID solid light sphere. Like Captain America when he was found encased in ice years ago. Only for her it was hard light.

She plowed through the canopy of green and hit a tree. Dazzler ricocheted off it and was sent spinning off in a different direction. Her body tumbling every which way.

Like a stone skipping water she hit the ground and bounced back into the air. But after the second bounce Dazzler's construct flickered out. There wasn't enough left in her reserves to keep it going. Dazzler hit the ground without shielding. She bounced some more and tumbled over the hard earth before finally coming to a very painful stop.

She laid there sprawled out and moaning. Her body ached all over inside and out. But her knee seemed to bother her the most. So Ali struggled to get up and take a look at it.

It was scrapped and bloody.

Damn.

Dazzler was about to stand up and test how bad off it was. Praying it was just a flesh wound and only looked worse than it actually was. But then she heard...IT.

In retrospect the spider may not have been THAT big. But at the time the singer swore you could put a saddle on it and ride it. The eight legged horse was coming straight for her.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!" She screamed while she unleashed an optic laser beam that bore right through the spider's torso, killing it instantly. Still its momentum kept what was left of the giant beast still charging toward her.

On pure fear-fueled adrenaline she was on her feet and charging through the bush before that B-movie horror could trample her. She didn't stop until she ran into a thorny thicket that tore into her flesh and costume. Pain and frustration caused her to scream out and unleash a solid light wave that ripped the thicket apart. Further draining her reserves.

Ali composed herself and inspected the damage done to her. Mostly more scratches and welts. How the hell did Shanna The She-Devil do it wearing nothing but a bikini?

At least her knee worked. The injury was mostly one big scrape.

Then she checked her bag. A pillowcase tied by some of the rope that was used to bind her, and Sue Richards, earlier. The bottled water and food packets were undamaged. Thank God for the small favors.

She was still less than one hour into the hunt. She had over 23 more to go and there was no telling what Kraven would do.

She took a deep breath, cupped one hand into the other, ready to shoot anything that crawled, slithered or pounced, and headed deeper into the Amazon.

As she went she absorbed every bit of the surrounding sound as she could.

And her :icondave-dreamer::icondaniel-remo-art: adventure continues.

Great installment /chapter.
Really like how you described the methods (and her quick and clear headed thinking ) that Ali employed to save herself from the potentially fatal fall . That was a very well thought out piece of story telling.
And the description of her perception of the giant spider "you could put a saddle on it and ride it" was a fun touch
